The app store – agreement with Canonical means it’s full speed ahead

In this latest video, Ebrahim outlines the vision for the LimeSDR platform and its role in democratising wireless innovation via solutions all the way from the highly cost-optimised LimeSDR Mini, right up to the LimeSDR QPCIe designed for wide area coverage.

App store integration has always been a core part of the LimeSDR vision and this is something that we have continued to work on in the background, together with partners such as Quortus, who have packaged their Pocket EPC for LTE network development. We are now pleased to announce that an agreement has been put in place with Canonical (Often better known by its Linux OS Ubuntu) which means that it will be full speed ahead in developing the app store and bringing further partners onboard.

More than simply developing a hardware platform, a comprehensive approach is being taken to enabling the development of tomorrow’s wireless networks. Achieving this through, for example:

  • A resolute commitment to reusable, open source hardware designs that support up to 10 GHz
  • Developing cutting edge open source technology such as adaptive digital pre-distortion
  • The integration of pre-certified LimeNET hardware to expedite system development
  • Partnering with Canonical to bring a secure, scalable app store model to wireless networks
  • Partnering with network operators such as BT and Vodafone to accelerate innovation
  • Providing early access to hardware for key open source community developers
  • Engaging the expert services of companies such as sysmocom to ensure that LimeSDR is well supported by important ecosystem software such as Osmocom
  • Sponsoring vital conferences such as the annual GNU Radio Conference
  • Running hands-on hackathons with expert and novice participants alike
  • Developing software such as ScratchRadio to inspire the next generation of engineers

We’ve come a long way in the past 18 months and we’ve got an even more exciting year ahead of us.
