Lime Micro Partner Gigabyte Unveils Commercial LimeNET CrowdCell Implementation
Lime Microsystems partner Gigabyte has officially unveiled the Gigabyte LimeNET CrowdCell, a commercial implementation of the app-enabled small-cell solution for 4G, 5G, and future cellular network infrastructure developed as part of Mobile Edge Compute (MEC) solutions.

Having supplied the motherboard and compute platform that drives the general-purpose processing (GPP) side of the LimeNET CrowdCell, and hosts the LimeSDR open software-defined radio technology to make deployment, maintenance, and reconfiguration as simple and low-cost as possible, Gigabyte is now offering a commercial implementation of the LimeNET CrowdCell for deployment of 4G and 5G networks.
Developed in partnership with Vodafone, the LimeNET CrowdCell is designed to extend existing cellular infrastructure at a fraction of the traditional cost by combining general-purpose processing and software-defined radio in a single small-cell RAN solution. Using existing infrastructure for backhaul, the LimeNET CrowdCell can be used to extend 4G, 5G, and future cellular infrastructure to otherwise underserved areas, launch small-scale trials of future radio technologies, or enable app-driven edge-computing tasks to reduce load on the network and improve latency for end users, deployed from a central app store platform.
Gigabyte's general-purpose compute platform sits at the heart of the LimeNET CrowdCell, hosting the Lime Micro LMS7002M-based LimeSDR software-defined radio technology which allows for low-cost deployment and rapid reconfiguration of future MEC applications. We at Lime Micro are thrilled to see Gigabyte bringing the technology to market, and hope it will usher in a new era of decentralised and democratised wireless communication for all.
