LiFi or light fidelity is similar to WiFi and as the name suggests, instead of using radio waves, utilises visible, IR or UV light for communications. The new development kit from Hyperion Technologies is based upon the LimeSDR USB and uses two of these together with optical transmitter and receiver modules, plus software support provided via GNU Radio.

The kit offers a wide bandwidth of 20MHz and features pre/post-equalisation, a 186 lumen LED, plus 170 degree detector field-of-view. This enables a range of up to 20m and supports both line-of sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NOS). Typical users of the turnkey solution include academic researchers and commercial R&D engineers.
