Following on from the success of last year’s unveiling of the Raspberry Pi 5G network-in-a-box at Mobile World Congress, Vodafone is introducing a new improved version at MWC24 with numerous use cases, ranging from network coverage extension to 5G network delivery via drone.

The new system will be fully compatible with Raspberry Pi 5 for higher bandwidth and overall performance to address more demanding industrial applications. The Lime radio module has also gone through further improvements for lower power, smaller form factor and with optimised drivers for the highly efficient Amarisoft 5G stack, enabling deployment of a completely self-contained, plug and play network solution for a wide variety of use cases.

The implementation is zero touch and could be configured and managed remotely. This makes the solution ideal for exploiting the benefits of 5G mobile private networks, without the need for specialist in-house IT or telecommunications skills. The solution is ultra portable and will be offered with an optional battery pack which could be mounted on drones and autonomous robots for remote deployments, such as emergency response scenarios or temporary events.

The product will be launched in the first half of this year for application developers, small-scale deployments, educational and experimental purposes, followed by trials leading to full scale deployments.

Interested partners can experience the potential of this innovative technology first-hand at Vodafone’s stand at Mobile World Congress (MWC) (Hall 3, stand 3E11), 26 – 29 February 2024.
